Since the Flip gimbal has a controllable range of -90º to +35º does that mean that there is a larger area of the sky that is black and ultimately needs to be filled in when the pano is processed in post or does the automated pano have the max mechanical range of -130º to +63º?

Also, there are some reports that the Flip is more susceptible to wind gusts than say a Mini 4 Pro so when doing a 360 pano or any other pano are there more stitching errors for a pano shot in the same conditions with a Mini 4 Pro or Mini 3 Pro?

Chris

Flip does not capture the top of a spherical pano. However, the top will be filled in by the stitching program.
Are you referring to DJI’s onboard pano stitching for filling in the sky?

I am just wondering that since the controllable range is not as much as the Mini 4P that there would be a larger hole at the top to fill. I do not use the built in panos stitched by DJI Fly but instead stitch the individual images myself.

Yes I mean stitching on the drone. I use the program "Panorama Stitcher" on a Mac to stitch photos and it will also fill the top.

@hummingbird.uav, I came across your post on the DJI Forum about the Flip making Incomplete 360º Panos. I am assuming you have a Flip. You say the Flip shoots 25 images. A drone like the Mini 3 Pro shoots 35 images, so are the difference in images due to the fact that the gimbal can only tilt up to a max of 35º?

Do you have some image samples you could share on a Google drive so they can be processed to see what the Pano looks like so I can compare to the ones created on a Mini 3 Pro?

Although I don't plan on buying a Flip in the immediate future, I am interested in it because it has features that both my NEO and Mini 3 Pro have. The only big negatives for me right now are the Flip's FOV (24mm) vs the NEO's (14mm) and the lack of FPV support for the Flip.

Hey Chrislaf! I don't have a good example of a hand-made pano with the flip, but looking at one which was stitched in-drone, it's a 8192x4096 image, and the "filled in" sky is about the top 1105 pixels of the image. Which seems huge when you look at it flat, but it's not particularly big inside a photosphere viewer.

Next time I take a pano with the flip I will get you more exact information.

Thanks. I appreciate that info. I have a feeling that I would have bought the Flip if it had come out before the NEO. I love the tracking features. I am mostly a stills photographer but have been doing all kinds of tracking videos with my NEO.

The ultra wide FOV on the NEO is so useful. I wish they would have incorporated that on the Flip.

I was the same, would have bought the flip over the neo if it came out first. As it happened I bought the flip and planned to sell the neo I already had on Facebook Marketplace to make up some of the difference. But I haven't yet gotten around to doing so, though I really should. It's just that that neo is so **** adorable and neat to carry around. I really hate to part with it

Then of course, don't!

Remember your Neo is so much tougher than your Flip (I have them both too), and while your Flip has a better camera, you can do thing with the neo that cause some cringe with the Flip and it's delicate gimble.

I agree. If the NEO would have come out after the Flip, I likely wouldn’t have considered it at all. Now that I know what I can do with the NEO and how durable it is, I find myself using it all the time.
