By somehow safely removing 5/6grams form the Flip/battery, it could be reduced to 244gr. Adding a compliant RI Dronetage BS module (which weights 4gr with the case around it for mounting) it will be 249 grams = FAA Category 1 Drone. I'm currently flying a Mini 2 with Japanese batteries and a Dronetage BS RI module as a Cat 1 drone by carefully removing some of the plastic on the prop guards resulting in a weight of 249gr. I realized the Flip was a just released, but my question is, before I start removing any weight, I wanted to see if anyone else has tried this? Does anyone have a schematic of a Flip? Thank you, Dean

Interesting concept to try out. I guess I haven't really considered it. I figured if I really wanted to do Cat 1 Ops, I would just get a RID module for the Neo or hope that DJI activates RID on the Flip. I'm fairly positive it has a RID module as it's active for other countries that require it (Japan, China, etc.)

The Neo is great, but I would like the higher quality of the Flip. The Mini 2 (with Japanese lighter battery) works fine, but it's becoming outdated.

These days with SDRs RID is truly simply a matter of programming. It can be added to the Flip when DJI decides to with a firmware update.
