Issue with landing

When hovering over the dead center of my giant landing pad I press left stick down andon landing sequence it drifts back and totally misses the huge pad and goes into leaves gunking up props. WHY? Big issue here.

Does the same thing happen if you tap the landing icon on the screen or you use the button on the controller?

It may not make a difference, but trying the automated landing would rule out problems with manually landing.
