Dedicated to @clakey and the FlipPilots Community.

When I posted "Should I upgrade from my mini 2 to a flip?" I never, even in my dreams imagined that I would win this drone. I am extremely grateful for everybody in this community congratulating me. I never expected this to happen.

My drone journey started when I was young, when one of my grandparents got me this thing, and I thought it was really cool. The battery life on that thing was so terrible it was funny. A few years later, one of my neighbors, (who was also a part 107 pilot I think?) Was getting rid of some things, when he came across a DJI Phantom 1. Yes, the first one. IMG_7233.jpeg
I fixed it, ordered new parts, and when it was ready to fly, I flew it. (if anyone wants a Phantom 1 for some reason I'd be happy to make an offer), And, no, I did not have a RID module on it, and I also did not fly it in a FRIA, oops.

A few years passed, and I got a DJI Mini 2 SE In December of 2024. I still love that thing, and I have gotten some amazing shots with it. I discover this form, make a post, and never expect to get the flip. Then I get the flip, I haven't gotten it yet but will update you all when I do.

Thanks to @ryguy80 , @FLIP 317 , and @Chrislaf for the kind thanks.

Congrats again and thanks for sharing your drone journey!

I think you will find that your new Flip will complement your Mini 2 SE. As you already know the Flip has some unique features that your Mini 2 doesn’t.

Post some photos/ videos too.

Enjoy and congrats!

Chris

Not sure what package you won, but if it’s the basic package with the drone and the RC-N3 controller you will likely want at least another battery and a charging hub.

When you get the drone try out some of the features and see what it can do and can't do. There are reports that it moves around a lot in the wind more than a similar sized drone like your Mini 2 SE. I don't have a Flip so I can't compare. Maybe @ryguy80 can add some tips as I think he has a Flip.

If you do video you might consider filters. For photos they are not needed except in very specific cases like slowing the shutter for blurring water. Aside from that a case and possibly Care Refresh.

Also, search Youtube as there are lots of helpful videos on the Flip.

Enjoy,

Chris

I will definitely get Care Refresh ASAP.

Here are some pointers:

Yes, getting Care Refresh would be step one since the Flip lacks 360 degree obstacle avoidance.

The Flip is impacted by strong winds, so don’t plan on flying on breezy days

I would shoot in normal color profile for video unless you have vidro editing software that can utilize LUTs, then shoot in D-Log M.

I would shoot photos in RAW unless you don’t have photo editing software.

A controller will maximize your flight distance since you’re not limited by Wi-Fi range.

Battery charging doesn’t happen simultaneously with multiple batteries if you have an adequate power supply until the batteries reach a certain charge level. That was one of the first internet controversies when the Flip was released. It’s also noted in the manual online.

Those are some tips, hope that helps. To be honest, I haven’t been able to fly the Flip as much as I would have liked so far as it was rather cold and breezy where I live this past winter and spring as also started off windy too. The Flip shares a lot of the features with the Mini 4 Pro while addingu automatous flight features.
